The library opens every morning at 7:30 a.m. The library closes at 3:05 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. On Mondays, the library will be open until 3:05 p.m. as well, unless there is a faculty meeting. If there is a faculty meeting, the library will close at 2:35 p.m. On Fridays, the library closes at 2:45 p.m. The library’s hours are posted on the door every day.
The library is also open to all students during the two lunch periods. Students are required to sign in, and are asked to behave appropriately. The library is not an extension of the cafeteria. People come to the library to study and do schoolwork.
If you come to the library during a class period, your teacher should give you a written pass, which you must give to one of the librarians when you arrive. Please do not let a teacher or substitute write a library pass for you in your planner. You must have a written pass that you can hand in, and you must fill out a library attendance slip when you arrive. If you need to leave the library and go back to class, make sure that you ask a librarian for your pass back before you leave.
You don’t need to sign in or have a pass when you come to the library before or after school, or during your lunch period. The photocopier in the library is available for use by students at no charge. It is here to be used to copy from library materials, such as pages in a reference book, or a newspaper article. You can also use it to copy notes if you were absent, or your birth certificate for driver’s ed.
Our photocopier CANNOT be used to make multiple copies of anything. For example, if a teacher asks you to bring in copies of a handout for a presentation you’re giving in class, you CANNOT make those copies here in the library. Give your original to your teacher ahead of time, and ask your teachers to have the copies made for you, or make the copies yourself outside of school. The library copier is not able to support everyone in the school making class sets of everything they need. Your teachers are aware of this policy, and should not expect you to make multiple copies in the library.Your I.D. Card and Borrowing Library Material
Every student in the high school is issued a photo identification card by the library. Freshmen should come to the library as soon as possible after the school begins in September to get their I.D. cards. As of October 15, I.D. cards will only be made on Wednesdays. New students, or students who need replacement I.D. cards, should come to the library on Wednesdays before 3:00 p.m. to get new cards.
When you borrow books from the library, we will scan the barcode on your I.D. card. Please have your card ready for scanning when you come to the circulation desk to borrow something. If you don’t have your I.D. card with you, see one of the librarians before going to the desk.
When you go to get your driver’s license, you will be asked to show your school photo I.D. card. Please make sure you have it with you before you go for your road test. If you need a replacement card, come to the library to get it no later than the Wednesday before your road test appointment.
A replacement I.D. card will cost $5.00. You WILL NOT receive a new card every year; you are expected to keep the same one you were issued as a freshman for all four years that you are in high school. If you want a new card to get a new picture, it will cost the same $5.00.Overdue Books and Overdue Fines
When you borrow a book from the library, you will receive a printed slip that shows when the book should be returned. Books are borrowed for four weeks at a time. When the four weeks are up, you should return the book to the library. If you still need the book for some reason, please come to the library and tell us, and we will renew the book for you for another four weeks.
If the four weeks go by and you don’t bring the book back, we’ll send you a note in homeroom to remind you. The note is just a reminder, because there are no overdue fines or fees and you don’t have to pay anything if the book is overdue. The price that you see on the reminder is what you will have to pay to replace the book if you lose it or never bring it back. THERE ARE NO OVERDUE FINES. We just want the book back when you’re finished with it.
If you receive a few overdue notices as reminders and you still don’t bring the book back, your name will be put on the school obligations list, along with the names of people who have lost textbooks. You’ll be expected to return the book or pay for its replacement immediately.Although our library is not a quiet one, your behavior should not disturb other people who are working around you. Keep your conversations limited to the others sitting at your own table.
Because the library has limited space, it’s very important that we keep the aisles clear so that everyone can walk around the library safely. Please do not move chairs from table to table, ever, unless you’ve been specifically asked by a librarian to do so. Please push in your chairs when you get up so that people can walk through the aisles. And please, make sure that your backpacks are always on top of the table or under the table, and not laying on the floor in any place where people need to walk.
Please do not eat in the library, and don’t bring in any drinks except water in bottles. No drinks, even water in bottles, should ever be brought to the computer area.
